Finance Controller Lead - Mexico & Brazil
About the opportunity
We're partnering with a growing, internationally-oriented company that is strengthening its finance and accounting function in Mexico. The business operates across more than one market (including Brazil) and is looking for a hands-on finance professional to become the local anchor for its Mexican operation.
This is a role for someone who enjoys owning the numbers end-to-end — combining strong technical accounting knowledge with the judgment to spot risks early and the presence to be a trusted point of contact for the business, banks, auditors, and regulators alike.
What you'll do
Own end-to-end local accounting for the Mexican entity: bookkeeping, tax, reporting, reconciliations, and treasury.
Ensure full compliance with Mexican tax and accounting regulations and practices.
Review and analyze financial statements, accounting records, reconciliations, cash flow, collections, invoicing, provisions, and revenue-related topics.
Act as the trusted local finance point of contact for Mexico, coordinating with finance, operations, and commercial teams, as well as banks, external providers, auditors, and regulatory bodies.
Lead and develop a small finance/accounting team.
Proactively identify inconsistencies, risks, and financial red flags, and recommend corrective action.
Operate and get the most out of the company's ERP environment (ideally Compaq and/or NetSuite).
Contribute to process improvement, automation, and the implementation of stronger financial controls.
Must-haves
5+ years of experience in finance, accounting, controllership, or related roles.
Solid experience in financial/accounting operations in Mexico — especially local accounting, tax, reporting, reconciliations, and treasury.
Strong knowledge of Mexican tax and accounting practices.
Ability to review and analyze financial statements, accounting records, reconciliations, cash flow, collections, invoicing, provisions, and revenue.
Experience with ERP systems (ideally Compaq and/or NetSuite).
Advanced Excel skills.
Ability to manage or lead a small finance/accounting team.
Strong analytical profile — able to identify inconsistencies, risks, and financial alerts.
Clear, assertive communication with internal teams (finance, operations, commercial) and external stakeholders (banks, providers, auditors, regulators).
Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
Availability to work in a hybrid model, with at least 2 days per week in the office.
Nice-to-haves
Prior experience in a Big Four firm.
Experience in a product company following a consulting or audit background.
Recent or current leadership experience.
Specialization in Finance, Audit, or Tax.
Hands-on experience with both NetSuite and Compaq.
Reporting and financial statement review experience.
Treasury experience.
Payroll experience.
Intermediate to advanced English (Portuguese is a plus).
Experience with Brazil-related finance operations.
Experience with process improvement, automation, and implementation of financial controls.
Exposure to private equity or fund reporting (not mandatory).
